As one of the most sought after comedians on the national entertainment circuit, Washington D.C. native, Earthquake was a fan favorite during the television explosion of BET’s Comic View and HBO’s Comedy Central in the mid-90’s. Earthquake was the host for the third annual Festival of Praise Tour.

Encore: Talk to us about your style and how you approached being the host for Festival of Praise 2016.

Earthquake: I’m a very spontaneous comic, I don’t go with any routine. Me and the rest of the cast get together and it’s more spontaneous and we go with the flow. When you’re the host and it’s a collective of people, whatever works great for the show is what I’ll do. I’m more of a team player.

Encore: Are there any comedians that have influenced you?

Earthquake: I’m a student of the game, but I don’t study the game. I don’t really listen to any comedians because I never wanted to be contaminated with anyone else’s material. Everyone’s struggle is different.

Encore: Any advice for the next generation of comedians or someone trying to break-in the business?

Earthquake: I always tell younger comedians if this is your calling then you’re blessed, because you have already found what you want to do and success is defined within you. So, if you’re in this profession and making a living and you feel you’re fulfilling your purpose, then you’re successful.

Encore: Can you share your thoughts on the tour?

Earthquake: I believe this is the greatest one they have ever had. It’s a place where people go to laugh and have a great time. Also, we paid tribute to the greatest thing ever, Jesus Christ.
